Rescuers

Independent rescuers working with Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) take in these cats and kittens, foster them in their homes, bottle feed kittens too young to feed themselves and get the cats and kittens the veterinary care they need to be healthy. These loving volunteers also work on socializing these often traumatized and frightened cats until they’re ready to purr, be affectionate and trust people again. When our cats are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, in good health and ready to be pets, we place them up for adoption at our adoption center.

Our rescuers also foster dogs in their homes. We can only accommodate small dogs right now.

Volunteers

Second Chance wouldn’t be able to function without the help of our many volunteers. These caring people visit our cats twice a day—once in the morning and once in the evening—to clean cages, feed the cats and give them medication when necessary as well as playtime and lots of TLC. Our volunteers also foster cats in their homes. They make sure our cats and kittens are healthy and comfortable with people before being placed in our shelters.

We’re always looking for loving, conscientious people to care for our cats. If you’d like to volunteer at our shelters, we ask that you complete three training sessions and commit to at least one shift per month (a shift lasts approximately two hours, but this varies depending on the number of cats). We require volunteers to be a minimum of 17 years of age to work on their own, but we do allow children to work with the cats as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Second Chance volunteers are very special people who tell us they get plenty of “pay” for their work in the form of the happy meows, purrs and love our cats give them!.
